Professionally refurbished and recalibrated

To ensure the audiophile qualities and long-term stability of this Pioneer CT-S810S, the device underwent a thorough technical restoration. As one of the few decks with Dolby S and the sophisticated "Reference Master" drive, it requires the highest precision in maintenance. Particular attention was therefore paid to perfecting the mechanics and signal processing.

Maintenance work carried out (excerpt):

Drive & mechanics (Reference Master / Dual Capstan):

The capstan sintered bearings were removed, chemically deep-cleaned, and then re-impregnated with special oil in a complex vacuum process. This ensures the best possible synchronisation and minimised "flutter" for years to come.
All drive belts were replaced with high-quality new parts.
The idler rubber (intermediate wheel), a classic weak point for winding problems in this drive, was replaced.
The pressure rollers of the closed-loop dual capstan system were thoroughly cleaned or, if necessary, replaced and checked for grip and tracking stability.
The entire mechanism has been re-greased with age-resistant lubricants at the relevant sliding points.

Motor service (3-motor system):

The motor bearings of the existing motors (capstan, winding, and servo motor) were serviced and refreshed.
Internal testing of the components ensures stable, quiet, and precise operation.

Electronics & controls:

Cleaning of all microswitches for cassette type detection and erasure protection.
The potentiometers and switches in the audio section were treated to eliminate scratching noises and channel failures in the signal path.
The display was cleaned from the inside (if necessary) to restore the brightness of the level meter.

Final adjustment & quality control (3-head system)

After the mechanical overhaul, electronic calibration was performed to meet the strict requirements for Dolby S:

Precision adjustment of tape transport and tape speed.
Adjustment of the head azimuth to maximum phase alignment using an oscilloscope and reference cassette (10 kHz / 12.5 kHz).
Checking and verifying the "Super Auto BLE" system: The calibration computer is now working perfectly again and calibrates bias, level, and EQ exactly to the tape used.
Checking the Dolby S levels (extremely important for noise reduction without artifacts).
Final endurance test and measurement of the synchronisation values (WRMS) to confirm successful bearing regeneration.
