Onkyo Integra TA-R77 — full auto reverse cassette deck with three motors, AMCS music search and Dolby B/C

Side A runs out, the head block rotates — and the Onkyo Integra TA-R77 simply carries on with side B. Its full auto reverse transport changes direction so quickly that the music continues with virtually no gap, and not only during playback: the deck also records in both directions, so a cassette can be recorded from start to finish without turning it over.

The elaborate transport of this deck shows that auto reverse convenience does not have to come at the expense of steady tape travel. It is at its best wherever music should play for a long time without intervention: for long listening sessions with larger cassette collections, for long uninterrupted recordings, and as a reliable source in a classic hi-fi chain.

Highlights & Features:

Full auto reverse transport with rotating Sendust record/playback head: a photo sensor detects the tape end and the direction change takes about 0.9 seconds — playback AND recording in both tape directions.
Reverse mode selection: one side, both sides or endless playback for uninterrupted background music.
Three-motor transport under microcomputer control: DC servo capstan motor for stable tape speed, separate motors for reel tables and head base — wow and flutter of just 0.04% WRMS.
AMCS Auto Music Control System: music search in forward and reverse direction, each track beginning is previewed for about ten seconds.
Dolby B and Dolby C noise reduction — Dolby C reduces tape hiss by about 20 dB at 5 kHz, roughly three times as much as Dolby B; switchable MPX filter for clean Dolby recordings from FM radio.
Tab monitor (recordability): automatically shows for both tape directions whether the erasure prevention tabs of the loaded cassette are present — no failed attempts on important recordings.
Manual tape selector metal/high/norm; Auto Space inserts a blank section of about five seconds at the press of a button and then switches to record-pause.
Two-colour peak level meters (−20 to +6 dB) for left and right channel, adjustable input level with L/R balance, timer operation for recording and playback, headphone output on the front.
