Braun Atelier C2 – cassette deck with motor-driven cassette drawer, Sendust head and Dolby B/C

Rather than disappearing behind a door, the cassette in the C2 lies flat in a motor-driven drawer that glides forward at the touch of a button. On this deck from the Atelier range, Braun placed the tape counter, function LEDs and soft-touch keys directly on the drawer, and an illumination lets you see the tape reels and the head from outside. The low steel-sheet housing with a front panel made of aluminium profiles keeps a calm, uncluttered look.

Anyone copying records, CDs or radio broadcasts onto cassette, or making their own recordings with a microphone, gets separate controls for line and microphone signals that can be mixed. At a height of only 70 mm, the deck also fits into shallow shelves and suits a system built around clean forms.

Highlights & Features

Motor-driven cassette compartment (“slider”): the drawer moves forward at the push of a button and the cassette is loaded flat; counter, LED indicators and transport keys sit directly on the drawer.
2-motor transport with capstan drive by an electronically controlled FG servo motor; transport functions are controlled electromagnetically via soft-touch keys and C-MOS logic, each key with its own LED indicator.
Combined record/playback head of laminated Sendust design.
Dolby B and Dolby C noise reduction; tape type switching for ferric, chrome, ferrichrome and metal tapes (type I to IV).
Inertia-free LED peak level meter with a scale from −15 to +6 dB for accurate level setting.
Separate recording controls “record line” and “record micro”: line and microphone signals can be mixed. Two microphone jacks on the front; using the left jack alone switches the deck to mono automatically.
Electronic 3-digit tape counter with reset, memory stop and repeat function.
Illumination of tape reels and head, automatic end-of-tape shut-off with jam protection.
Headphone jack on the front for headphones from 200 ohms to 2.2 kohms.
