Onkyo TA-2570 – Integra 3-head cassette deck with dual capstan, 3 motors, Auto Accubias, Dolby B/C and HX Pro

Anyone who records their own cassettes knows that every tape formulation and brand needs a slightly different bias setting. The TA-2570 from Onkyo's Integra line takes care of this at the push of a button, measuring the bias current against the loaded tape while in record-pause. Separate record and playback heads let you listen to the result straight off the tape while the recording is still running, and the microprocessor-controlled transport guides the tape calmly past the heads between two capstan shafts.

The deck is made for listeners who want to transfer records, CDs or radio broadcasts carefully onto cassette; existing recordings can be played back and digitised just as well. It connects to the tape loop of an amplifier via cinch (RCA) or DIN, and with Onkyo components fitted with an RI socket the transport also becomes part of the system control.

Highlights & Features

3-head transport (front legend “3 HEAD / 3 MOTOR / DUAL CAPSTAN”): separate record and playback heads made of special hard permalloy plus a ferrite erase head; the MONITOR button switches between source and off-tape monitoring (SOURCE/TAPE) during recording.
Microprocessor-controlled dual capstan transport with three motors: dedicated DC motors for the capstan drive, the reel spindles and the head carriage (one servo motor, two DC motors), designed as a quiet “Silent Tape Transport”.
Fully automatic Accubias system: in record-pause a press of START is all it takes for the deck to match the bias current to the tape coating; the display shows the status (OFF/TUNED), RESET clears the setting.
REC CAL: record level calibration with separate left and right controls, so that Dolby noise reduction works correctly even with tapes of differing sensitivity; calibration to 0 dB is done via off-tape monitoring.
Dolby B and Dolby C noise reduction. Dolby HX Pro is not noise reduction but adapts the bias to high-frequency content during recording; it works independently of Dolby B/C, and tapes recorded with it play back normally on decks without HX Pro.
Two-colour fluorescent peak level meter with 2 x 16 segments from −30 to +10 dB, the upper 12 segments (−7 to +10 dB) with peak hold.
Four-digit real-time tape counter: elapsed time (CONS) or remaining time (REMA), based on the selected tape length C46, C60, C90 or C120.
AMCS music scan forwards and backwards: winds to the next track start and plays about 10 seconds of each track; AUTO SPACE inserts blanks of around 5 seconds when recording.
Repeat function BLOCK (any chosen tape section) and FULL (whole cassette side), up to five passes each.
Automatic tape type selection (normal, high, metal) via the identification holes on the cassette, MPX filter for Dolby recordings from FM radio, INPUT LEVEL, BALANCE and OUTPUT LEVEL controls, TIMER switch (REC/OFF/PLAY) for recording or playback via an external timer.
Infrared remote sensor (REMOTE SENSOR) on the front plus RI socket: connected to an Onkyo receiver or CD player bearing the RI mark, record/pause, play, stop and winding can be operated via its control.
