Denon DN-M1050R — Professional series MiniDisc recorder for the 19-inch rack

This machine was built for the equipment rack: 19-inch mounting width, three rack units, a metal front panel with mounting ears and a motorised disc loader (Power Loading Mechanism) behind it. Operation follows studio logic — separate keys for standby/cue, play/pause and record, a jog wheel with an outer scan ring, plus a large display showing levels, track and disc names, pitch as well as elapsed and remaining time at the same time.

Typical homes for it are radio and production studios, theatre and event technology and fixed installations where playback has to start on command. Balanced XLR connections and AES/EBU match existing studio equipment, while the serial and parallel remote ports tie the recorder into control desks and automation. 19-inch rack unit, three rack units high, with motorised disc loading (Power Loading Mechanism).
Balanced analogue XLR inputs and outputs plus AES/EBU digital on XLR; in addition analogue RCA and S/PDIF digital. Two front-panel switches select analogue or digital source and XLR or RCA input.
Jog and shuttle control: the inner search wheel steps frame by frame (1/85 second), the outer scan ring moves through the material at a speed depending on how far it is turned.
Cue points can be written to the disc and recalled directly; plus standby/cue, auto cue with selectable detection threshold, end cue and an end monitor function.
EOM indicator with adjustable warning time signals the approaching end of a track — also as a tally signal on the parallel remote port.
Full editing set: erase, A-B erase, divide, combine, move, insert, title input and undo; the UTOC is written manually by key or automatically, and the pre-UTOC function protects material already recorded against interruptions.
Pitch control ±9.9 % in steps of 0.1 %; the selected speed can be stored on the disc.
Recording automation: level start begins recording on signal detection and can start up to 5 seconds before detection; auto increment sets track numbers by subcode or level.
Serial remote RS-232C/RS-422A (switchable, 9600 or 19200 bps, player ID selectable) and a parallel remote port with fader start and tally outputs.
PS/2 keyboard socket on the front for convenient track and disc name entry.
Operational safety on air: play lock and panel lock disable the front controls, and three separately stored preset sets keep different operating configurations ready.
Mono recording doubles the running time to 148 minutes; headphone output with its own level control on the front, output level trimmers for left and right on the rear.
