Tascam DA-45HR — 19-inch DAT recorder with 24-bit HR mode, XLR and AES/EBU

High-resolution recording on DAT cassette: the cassette door of this studio machine carries the legend “24-BIT HIGH RESOLUTION DAT”. In HR mode the Tascam DA-45HR records 24-bit linear audio, running the tape at twice the normal speed. In standard mode the deck works with 16 bits according to the familiar DAT format, so these tapes remain playable on conventional DAT machines. The 19-inch chassis with fitted rack ears is designed for a permanent place in an equipment rack.

The deck is at home in recording studios, broadcasting, live sound and the ambitious home studio, where balanced lines and digital connections are part of everyday work. Archivists and collectors can use it as a source machine to audition existing DAT tapes and transfer them digitally to a computer without an additional conversion stage.

Highlights & Features

24-bit HR mode: linear 24-bit recording at double tape speed (120-minute cassette = 60 minutes); standard mode with 16-bit linear for up to 120 minutes. Playback detects the recording mode automatically.
Sampling frequency 44.1 or 48 kHz selectable via the Fs switch for analogue recordings; with a digital source the sampling frequency is detected automatically.
Dual analogue inputs and outputs: balanced via XLR (+4 dBu) and via RCA (–10 dBV); XLR outputs with LEVEL trimmers, CAL/UNCAL input selection with separate L/R level controls on the front.
Digital interfaces AES/EBU (XLR) and coaxial S/PDIF (RCA) as input and output, data format detected automatically; word clock input with thru output (BNC, auto termination) and clock selection INT / D-IN / WORD.
Large shuttle wheel for positioning the tape by ear, DATA dial for menus and entries; two locate memories (LOC 1 / LOC 2) for jumping to stored tape positions.
Comprehensive ID management: write and erase start, skip and end IDs, Auto ID with adjustable threshold, renumbering; skip play, single play, programme and repeat modes.
Titling for tape and individual programmes, fluorescent display with peak level meters, margin display (headroom) plus ABS time and remaining time.
Control I/O port (15-pin D-sub) for external control, socket for the optional RC-D45 wired remote, headphone output with level control on the front.
