Pioneer A-A6-J — stereo integrated amplifier in twin-mono construction with MM phono

Two mains transformers, two completely separate power amplifier sections and a front panel with hardly any controls: with the A-A6-J Pioneer stripped the stereo integrated amplifier down to the essentials. The twin-mono construction keeps left and right channels apart right up to the power supply; short signal paths and a no-feedback power supply circuit are intended to keep playback fast and clean. According to the manufacturer the fine-tuning was carried out together with the engineers of AIR Studios – the titanium-coloured front carries their logo at the bottom right. The unit is operated largely by remote control; the chassis itself holds only the mains switch, the input selector, the Direct key and the large volume knob.

The amplifier is intended for a compact stereo system with CD player, tuner, cassette or MD recorder and a turntable with MM cartridge. With 47 watts DIN per channel into 8 ohms it also drives loudspeakers down to 4 ohms nominal impedance and suits living rooms where clarity and simplicity count for more than sheer power.

Highlights & Features

Twin-mono construction: left and right amplifier sections work completely independently, each with its own transformer – for stable stereo imaging.
Direct key on the unit and on the remote: tone controls, balance and the front display are switched off and the signal takes the shortest route to the power stage.
Phono input for MM cartridges with ground terminal; turntables with a built-in preamplifier can be connected to AUX instead.
Tape loop with separate Rec and Play sockets: recordings from any selected source, unaffected by volume, balance and tone settings.
Bass and treble (±10 dB each) and balance are set via the remote control – there are no tone controls on the unit itself; BASS and TREBLE indicators in the display show an active setting.
LCD display with dimmer and volume readout in dB, standby operation via remote control, headphone socket with automatic speaker muting.
Speaker terminals for bare wire or banana plugs; speakers from 4 to 16 ohms are permitted.
Control Out socket (Pioneer SR system): passes remote control commands on to other Pioneer components.
