Pioneer PD-M703 — CD changer with 6-disc magazine, Pulseflow D/A converter and DSP mode

A six-slot magazine, a slim slot on the left of the front panel and a large red display on the right showing disc, track and time: that is how the Pioneer PD-M703 lays out its controls. Behind the “Digital Signal Processor” lettering on the front sits a Pulseflow D/A converter, for which Pioneer’s service manual quotes a signal-to-noise ratio of 102 dB. The loaded magazine can be stored on the shelf and swapped for a second, already filled one at any time.

The changer is made for long listening evenings when nobody wants to change discs one by one, and for dubbing to cassette, where fade and level aids plus the synchro link to a Pioneer tape deck make the job easier. It can be operated comfortably from the sofa via remote control, and the front headphone output lets you listen without the rest of the system running. A pure playback unit without recording function that plays via RCA on any amplifier or receiver.

Highlights & Features

6-disc CD magazine: the complete magazine slides into the front slot, with the slot indicator 1 to 6 right next to it; according to the manufacturer, magazines with the same Pioneer mark are interchangeable (12 cm CDs).
Pulseflow D/A converter (“PULSEFLOW D/A CONVERTER” lettering) and Digital Signal Processor with its own DSP Mode key at the display.
Direct selection of each of the six discs via dedicated disc keys below the display, plus number keys 1 to 10 and >10 for direct track selection.
Program and Delete for compiling the playback order, Repeat, Random for shuffle play and Hi-Lite for scanning the tracks.
Aids for cassette recording: COMPU/TIME FADE, Auto Fader for smooth fade-in and fade-out and ADLC (Automatic Digital Level Controller) for automatic level adjustment; plus the Music Type key.
CD-Deck Synchro: synchronised recording start with a matching Pioneer cassette deck via its own jack on the rear.
Remote sensor in the front panel; operation via the supplied replacement remote control.
Headphone output, 6.3 mm jack, on the front with its own level control (Level, Min to Max).
Red display showing disc, track, time and dB; the Time key switches the time display.
