Pioneer PD-M550 — 6-disc CD changer with magazine and 1-bit conversion

Six CDs in one magazine that slides into the slot like a cassette: that is how Pioneer’s PD-M550 multi-play player works. The magazine can be loaded at leisure outside the unit and kept on the shelf as a ready-made selection — with a second magazine, the next six albums are waiting. For conversion Pioneer relies on its 1-bit “Direct Linear Conversion” method, marked as 1-BIT DLC on the brushed front panel.

The changer shows its strengths wherever music should run for a long time without attention: at parties, in a shop or as background on a long evening. Anyone still recording cassettes will also find editing functions that compile tracks to match the playing time of one tape side. It connects in analogue via RCA to any amplifier or receiver with a line input.

Highlights & Features

Magazine changer for six 12 cm CDs; each disc can be selected directly via the DISC 1 to DISC 6 keys on the front.
1-bit D/A conversion using the “True 1-Bit Direct Linear Conversion System” (front marking 1-BIT DLC).
Hi-Lite Scan as Disc Scan and Track Scan: plays short excerpts of the discs or tracks in the magazine to make selection easier.
Time Fade Edit compiles tracks for a specified time and fades out at the end; Compu PGM Edit distributes the tracks to suit both sides of a cassette.
Auto Fader for smooth fade-in and fade-out at the touch of a key.
Programming of up to 32 steps, Delete Play to skip individual tracks, Random Play across all discs and repeat of one track, all discs, program or random play.
Numeric keypad 1–10, +10 and ≥20 for direct track selection without searching.
ADLC key (Automatic Digital Level Controller) on the front for digital level control.
Headphone output (6.3 mm jack) with its own LEVEL control plus a CD-Deck Synchro jack for synchronised control of a suitable cassette deck.
