Pioneer PD-10AE — CD player with 24-bit/192 kHz converter, MP3 playback and track programming

Stripped down to the essentials: a standby button, the tray, a display and six transport keys — the front of the PD-10AE needs nothing more. Behind the plainly brushed fascia works a 24-bit/192 kHz D/A converter that reads audio CDs as well as home-burned CD-R and CD-RW discs, optionally with MP3 files arranged in folders. Weighing around five kilograms, the full-width player sits firmly on its four feet.

It is intended as a pure source without recording function for a stereo system: the signal leaves the unit exclusively in analogue form through one pair of RCA jacks to the amplifier or receiver; there is no digital output. Anyone who wants to enjoy a CD collection including MP3 discs without fuss, handling the finer settings from the remote, gets a clearly laid-out machine that switches itself off after a longer pause.
