Pioneer PDR-609 — CD recorder with CD text input and separately adjustable recording levels

Recordings that explain themselves later: on the PDR-609, disc and track names can be entered as CD text directly via the jog dial and front-panel keys, no computer needed. Pioneer released this CD recorder in a late, mature generation of the format and equipped it accordingly: it records to CD-R and CD-RW, erases, finalizes and plays back finished discs as a fully capable CD player with Legato Link conversion. What stands out is the control over levels, because the recording level can be adjusted separately for digital and analogue sources.

This makes the recorder a good match for anyone who looks after their own music collection: transferring vinyl and tape to CD, capturing radio broadcasts or compiling discs for the car and a second system. With its three selectable inputs it fits into virtually any existing stereo setup.

Enter CD text directly on the unit: name discs and tracks via the jog dial, NAME and DISPLAY/CHARA keys (upper/lower case, numbers, symbols); the SCROLL key runs long names across the display.
Separately adjustable recording levels: digital in fine steps up to +20 dB via the menu, analogue via its own rotary control — plus recording balance for left/right.
Input selection between analogue, optical and coaxial via the input selector; the built-in sampling rate converter accepts digital sources at 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz (CD/MD) and up to 48 kHz (DAT/DCC), and a through mode allows copies of HDCD and DTS encoded CDs.
Synchro recording for single tracks or complete discs: starts automatically with the source, optionally followed by automatic finalization.
