Sony MDS-JE510 — MiniDisc deck with optical and coaxial digital inputs, Sampling Rate Converter and REC level control

Silver component format, a motorised disc slot and a control panel that puts the key recording settings on real switches and knobs: the MDS-JE510 is made for anyone who prefers to take hold of a recording directly rather than step through menus. Recording level, signal source and stereo or mono operation each have their own control on the front panel.

In everyday use the deck captures radio broadcasts, records or personal compilations on a rewritable disc whose tracks can be selected individually and edited afterwards. CD players or DAT recorders feed it digitally via optical fibre or coaxial cable, analogue sources via RCA. Through the optical digital output a recorded disc can in turn be passed on digitally to another recorder or converter, and the timer switch lets the deck work together with an external timer.

Highlights & Features

Sampling Rate Converter and Wide Bit Stream (front-panel print): digital sources with a different sampling rate, such as a DAT recorder, are converted to the 44.1 kHz of the MiniDisc during recording.
INPUT slide switch on the front: select DIGITAL OPT, DIGITAL COAX or ANALOG without a menu and without re-plugging at the rear.
REC LEVEL knob with a 0 to 10 scale: the recording level is set directly on the unit, so every source can be levelled properly.
REC MODE switch stereo/mono: mono recordings use only half of the disc and thus double the available recording time, handy for speech and long recordings.
AMS rotary control with push enter for quick track selection; EDIT/NO and YES guide you through editing recorded discs, DISPLAY/CHAR and SCROLL show track names and times in the display.
PLAY MODE and REPEAT for various playback orders and repeat functions.
TIMER switch REC/OFF/PLAY: recording or playback starts together with an external timer.
Headphone output (6.3 mm jack) with its own PHONE LEVEL control, motorised disc loading (Auto Loading Mechanism), infrared receiver for the remote control and MAIN POWER switch on the rear.
