Sony TA-FE500R – Black Stereo Integrated Amplifier with Phono Input, Source Direct and EON Link

Six sources, two large knobs at the centre of the front panel and an output stage rated at 75 watts per channel into 4 ohms and 55 watts into 8 ohms (DIN): Sony designed the TA-FE500R as a stereo integrated amplifier in the standard 430 mm width that slots straight into an existing hi-fi system. The service manual describes the power stage as a complementary SEPP OCL circuit with all stages directly coupled, preceded by a low-noise equalizer preamplifier.

It works with speakers from 4 to 16 ohms, and the black casing blends in discreetly among dark components in a rack.

Highlights & Features

Source direct: one button routes the selected source past the tone and loudness controls; an indicator shows when the direct path is active.
Phono input with RIAA equalisation: a turntable can be connected without a separate preamp, with the ground terminal on the rear.
Two full recording loops TAPE1/DAT and TAPE2/MD, each with its own REC OUT – room for a cassette deck, MiniDisc recorder or DAT deck at the same time.
TAPE 1 MONITOR button: with a deck offering off-tape monitoring, the running recording can be heard directly through the amplifier.
Separate bass and treble controls (−10 to +10 each), plus balance and switchable loudness for low listening levels.
EON LINK: button on the front and EON CONTROL socket on the rear for linked operation with a matching Sony tuner.
Indicators above the input selector show the active source; infrared receiver for the remote control and standby indicator at the power button.
Headphone jack (6.3 mm) on the front and three switched AC outlets on the rear (max. 100 W in total) for further components.
