Akai DX-3000W — double cassette deck with two auto-reverse transports, slide loading, Dolby B/C and HX Pro

A brushed silver front, two slim drawer panels instead of flip-up cassette doors and a large fluorescent display in the middle: Akai designed the DX-3000W as a “Slide Loading Cassette Deck”. Transport I is a pure playback transport, transport II records and plays back – and both reverse the tape automatically at the end. The transport keys of both decks are grouped above the display, with the recording and dubbing functions in a row of buttons below it.

The deck shows its strengths when copying and backing up existing cassettes, compiling new mixtapes and recording from CD or radio via the amplifier. Its flat housing fits neatly into a hi-fi shelf, and thanks to its cinch connections the DX-3000W works with any amplifier or receiver that has a free tape input.

Highlights & Features

Two auto-reverse transports: transport I for playback (I PLAYBACK), transport II for recording and playback (REC/PLAY II). Both play the second side without turning the cassette over; the REV. MODE key selects the reverse behaviour.
Slide-loading design: cassettes are loaded via flat drawers behind the front panels, and each transport has its own ■/▲ key for stop and eject.
Dubbing from transport I to transport II with the DUBBING key, optionally at increased speed (HI-SPEED); plus an AUTO DUB. key for automatic copying.
Dolby B and Dolby C noise reduction, selectable via DOLBY NR (OFF/B/C). Dolby HX Pro is not noise reduction; it adapts the bias during recording – tapes remain playable on any other deck.
CD SYNC REC for synchronised recording from CD; two REMOTE CONTROL sockets (A/B) on the rear for system linking.
Recording via REC and PAUSE, with the recording level set steplessly on the REC LEVEL knob (MIN–MAX).
Large fluorescent display in the centre, separate wind keys and tape counter with COUNTER RESET for each transport, plus a REPEAT key for repeat playback.
