LG LV2285 – 2-head VHS VCR with NTSC playback and long play

Old family and holiday tapes mainly need a dependable transport and straightforward operation – and that is exactly what LG built the LV2285 for. This compact machine plays PAL VHS recordings, records in standard or long play and also shows NTSC tapes on a PAL television. Sound is mono via the linear track.

The recorder connects through its Euro AV socket (SCART) to a TV, a video grabber for digitising or a DVD recorder; the same socket also accepts the signal from a camcorder or player for recording. All settings are made in graphic on-screen menus available in six languages, while the front carries only the essential transport keys around the large play button. At 36 cm wide, the cabinet fits even narrow shelf compartments.

Highlights & features

2-head transport for VHS with standard and long play (SP/LP): long play doubles the recording time, LP recordings are detected automatically on playback.
NTSC playback on PAL colour TVs – handy for tapes from the USA or Japan.
Automatic tracking, adjustable by remote control if noise bars appear; the OPR function (Optimal Picture Reproduction) offers two selectable picture settings for playback.
CM Skip: skips 30 seconds to 3 minutes in six steps during playback, then returns to playback automatically.
Real-time tape counter in hours, minutes and seconds with remaining-tape display; Memory Stop finds a marked tape position precisely when winding.
Still picture with frame advance, picture search forward and reverse, and Logic Search, which briefly switches to a visible picture during fast winding.
“Video Doctor” self-diagnosis in the menu: shows, among other things, whether the video heads need cleaning and whether the inserted tape is ready for recording.
16:9/4:3 picture format selectable for recording and playback, ITR quick recording with 30-minute time steps, key lock (child lock) and energy-saving mode.
