Marantz SR110 – compact stereo receiver with drop-down front, SRS WOW and 30 presets

Brushed aluminium, a hinged front door and a round display in the centre: at 21 centimetres wide and just over 7 centimetres tall, the SR110 fits on a shelf, a desk or next to the TV without looking like a classic hi-fi component. Behind the front door sit the multi-jog dial, the volume knob and the headphone jack; with the door closed the unit shows a calm, clean surface and still receives infrared commands through its lens.

Its job is to act as the hub of a small system in a study, bedroom or living room. Radio comes in on FM and AM, and a CD player, CD recorder, MiniDisc deck and one more source such as a TV or DVD player can be connected. The discrete power amplifier suits compact bookshelf speakers well in a room of moderate size, where the system should take up as little space as possible.

Highlights & Features

SRS WOW with TruBass: the SRS Labs sound circuit widens the stereo image and strengthens the bass of small speakers; selectable via the WOW key in the steps OFF, LOW and HIGH.
Compact chassis 210 mm wide and 71.5 mm high; the front door opens with the OPEN key, infrared reception also works with the door closed.
FM/AM tuner with 30 presets, automatic station search and auto preset function; FM reception either auto stereo or fixed mono.
Multi-jog dial with push-enter: controls source selection, balance, bass and treble as well as tuning, presets and timer programming.
Recording loops for a CD recorder and a MiniDisc deck (IN/OUT each), plus inputs for a CD player and an AUX source.
System bus via the remote control jacks with SYSTEM/INT switch: with matching Marantz components the units switch on and off together and the source is selected automatically when playback starts.
Clock with timer programme (once or daily), sleep timer from 10 to 90 minutes and display with switchable brightness.
STANDBY, DISPLAY and MUTE keys on the upper front strip, headphone jack behind the door (speakers are muted when headphones are plugged in).
