Harman Kardon BDS2 – Blu-ray Home Cinema Receiver 2.1 (without speakers)

Two speakers, a subwoofer and a single unit for films, music and radio: the Harman Kardon BDS2 is built for exactly this slim setup. Its flat black cabinet, just over ten centimetres high, combines a slot-loading Blu-ray drive, a stereo amplifier with subwoofer output and an FM tuner. A large volume knob sits on the front, the eject and standby buttons are on the top, and the picture reaches the TV over a single HDMI cable. Offered here is the main unit – speakers are not included.

The receiver makes sense wherever there is no room for five speakers but film sound should have more body than the TV speaker can deliver. Paired with existing bookshelf speakers and an active subwoofer, it forms a compact 2.1 home cinema that also handles radio, music from a USB stick and sources such as a CD player or cassette deck.
