Pioneer CT-S710 — 3-head cassette deck with closed loop dual capstan, Super Auto BLE, Dolby B/C and HX Pro

Calibration at the touch of a button, off-tape monitoring and a closed tape drive: Pioneer designed the CT-S710 as a stereo cassette deck for recordings whose result can be judged while they are still running. A combination head with separate record and playback gaps plus a dedicated erase head lets you listen directly from the tape. The cassette sits in an angled transport, which the door labels as a "Slant Mounted Mechanism".

The black deck belongs in a system where vinyl, CDs or radio broadcasts are meant to end up on cassette. Together with a suitably equipped Pioneer CD player, a dubbing session can be started jointly via the synchro link instead of coordinating both units by hand. It is just as suited to playing an existing collection, including tapes recorded with Dolby B or Dolby C.

Highlights & Features

3-head transport according to the door print "3-HEAD SYSTEM": combination head with separate record and playback gaps (head print "REC PB") and separate erase head; off-tape monitoring via the MONITOR button with AUTO function.
Closed loop dual capstan according to the print: two capstans, each with its own pinch roller, guide the tape before and after the heads in a closed loop; plus "DIGITAL TENSION CONTROL" and a cassette stabilizer ("CASSETTE STABILIZER").
Super Auto BLE System: automatic tape calibration to the loaded cassette, started and cleared via the START/CLEAR button; in addition BIAS −/+ for manual fine adjustment of the bias.
Dolby B and C noise reduction, selectable via DOLBY NR OFF/B/C. Dolby HX Pro is not noise reduction but adapts the bias during recording to the high-frequency content of the music signal; MPX filter as a switch on the rear panel.
CD-Deck Synchro: CD SYNC button on the front and CD•DECK SYNCHRO jack on the rear for synchronised dubbing from a suitably equipped Pioneer CD player; CONTROL IN/OUT jacks for Pioneer system control (SR logo on the front).
Display with two-channel level meter, METER MODE and METER HOLD; tape counter with COUNTER MODE and RESET, TAPE CAPA setting, TAPE RETURN button and DISPLAY OFF to switch the display off.
Music search (MS) via the winding buttons, dedicated record and pause buttons; timer switch REC / OFF / PLAY with REPEAT position for timed recording or playback via an external timer and for repeat playback.
Recording level via a large REC LEVEL knob with 0–10 scale, recording balance (REC BALANCE) adjustable separately; headphone output on the front with its own level control (PHONES LEVEL).
