Panasonic NV-HS950 — S-VHS video recorder with digital TBC and 3D DNR

Jittery lines, unstable framing, noise in dark areas — the typical ailments of old video tapes. The NV-HS950 brings two effective tools for exactly that: its digital time base corrector evens out time base errors and stabilises the playback picture, while the three-dimensional digital noise reduction 3D DNR removes noise from the image. Both can be switched in separately. This combination makes this Panasonic S-VHS video recorder a sought-after source deck for digitising VHS and S-VHS archives.

The machine was also designed as the heart of a home editing suite: camcorder footage can be fed in, dubbed with new audio and edited frame-accurately, with manual recording level control. For tape transport Panasonic relies on its Super Drive mechanism with Amorphous Pro Head; in S-VHS mode playback reaches a horizontal resolution of more than 400 lines.

The hi-fi track records from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a dynamic range of more than 90 dB, in LP mode for up to 520 minutes in one go — useful for radio recordings or for preserving tape and record collections.
Crystal View Control (CVC): automatic tape calibration for optimised playback.
NTSC playback on PAL television sets (PAL 60).
