Sony SLV-T2000 — VHS/Hi8 combo with twin decks and two-way dubbing

Old camcorder tapes sit unused in many households — the matching camcorder broke or disappeared long ago. Sony built the SLV-T2000 exactly for this situation: Under one lid, two full decks work side by side, an 8mm deck for Hi8 and Video8 cassettes and a hi-fi stereo VHS deck. Camcorder footage from back then can be watched on the TV without any extra device and transferred to VHS in a few simple steps; the reverse route from VHS to 8mm tape works just as well.

The combination also proves flexible in everyday use: Both decks operate independently and, if desired, even simultaneously — while one records, the other plays back a cassette. The unit thus replaces two separate recorders and keeps the TV cabinet tidy.

Two decks in one chassis: 8mm deck for Hi8 and Video8 cassettes (automatic cassette type detection) and hi-fi stereo VHS deck (PAL).
One-touch dubbing: The DUBBING key copies in both directions (Video8/Hi8 to VHS or VHS to 8mm) — both tapes are rewound to the beginning automatically, start and finish run by themselves.
Scene-by-scene editing via the EDIT keys: Only the desired scenes are transferred from one deck to the other.
Audio dubbing on the VHS deck; VHS Audio Mix plays the hi-fi and normal audio tracks simultaneously.
Two audio layers on one tape: for dubbing you can connect a stereo system and record its signal in mono onto the normal audio track of the VHS tape — the original hi-fi stereo sound stays untouched and can then be played back together with the new track. Camcorder footage gains music or a spoken commentary without losing the original sound.
OPC (Optimum Picture Control): automatic picture optimisation for VHS recordings.
Click shuttle ring for still picture, slow motion plus double and high speed forwards and backwards.
Quick timer for instant recordings in 30-minute steps; timer recording on one deck while the other keeps running.
Index search on the VHS deck; high-speed rewind for the 8mm tape.
