Sony RDR-GX220 – DVD recorder with component output, progressive scan and DivX playback

If you want to move video cassettes, camcorder tapes or recordings from a receiver onto disc for good, the Sony RDR-GX220 is a slim, uncomplicated DVD recorder for the job. It writes to both disc families, plus and minus blanks, and offers eight recording modes for balancing picture quality against running time to suit the source material. Signals come in through the input sockets behind the front flap or via the two SCART connectors on the rear.

In the living room the unit doubles as a DVD player that sends a progressive picture to televisions and projectors via its component output. The built-in analogue tuner no longer receives any stations in Germany; recordings are therefore made from external sources via the AV and SCART inputs, while disc playback is unaffected.

Highlights & Features

DVD burner for DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD+R Double Layer, DVD-RW and DVD-R; DVD-RW and DVD-R can be recorded in either Video or VR mode, DVD+RW discs are finalised automatically.
Eight recording modes from HQ to SLP: approx. 1 to 8 hours on a 4.7 GB DVD, up to approx. 14 hours 28 minutes on a DVD+R Double Layer; audio is recorded in Dolby Digital 2-channel.
LINE 2 IN input behind the front flap with S-Video, video and stereo audio (RCA) for video recorders and analogue camcorders; picture quality and noise reduction for the recording can be adjusted beforehand.
Synchro recording (SYNCHRO REC): a device with its own timer connected to LINE 3/DECODER starts and stops the recording automatically when it switches on and off.
Component video output Y/PB/PR with progressive scan (625p) plus RGB output via the LINE 1 – TV SCART socket for a clean picture on the TV.
Playback of DVD-Video, Video CD and Super Video CD, audio CD and CD-R/RW as well as MP3 music, JPEG photos and DivX video from DATA CD and DATA DVD.
