Panasonic DMR-EX93C – DVD hard disk recorder with DVB-C tuner, 250 GB hard drive and HDMI

Recording cable TV, digitising video tapes and keeping the result on DVD: for these three tasks the Panasonic DMR-EX93C from the DIGA range combines a digital cable tuner, a 250 GB hard drive and a DVD burner in a slim housing. Programmes from the cable network go straight onto the hard drive, where they can be trimmed and divided into chapters before being transferred to disc when needed. Via HDMI the picture reaches modern flat-screen televisions upscaled to 1080p.

Anyone wanting to rescue old family films connects a video recorder or camcorder behind the front flap; photos and clips enter the unit via SD card or USB stick. TV reception runs over the digital cable network (DVB-C); the terrestrial and analogue sections of the combination tuner no longer find any stations in Germany.

Highlights & Features

DVB-C tuner for digital cable TV: HD channels (H.264) are received and recorded in SD quality; Common Interface slot for a CAM module with the cable provider's smart card (CI and CI Plus), plus teletext and subtitles for digital broadcasts.
250 GB hard drive with up to 441 hours of recording time (EP 8-hour mode) and up to 499 titles; Flexible Rec adjusts the picture quality so that a title fits exactly onto a 4.7 GB DVD, Pause Live TV pauses the programme currently on air.
DVD burner for DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD-R DL, DVD-RW as well as +R, +R DL and +RW; titles on the hard drive can be copied to DVD in high-speed mode (up to 75x, depending on the disc).
Transferring tapes and camcorder footage: DV input (IEEE 1394) on the front with DV Auto Rec, which sets a chapter at every picture break; alongside it video and stereo audio inputs (AV3) with switchable input noise reduction for video tapes, S-Video and RGB input via SCART AV2.
HDMI output (V.1.3a with Deep Colour) with selectable 576p, 720p, 1080i or 1080p output; VIERA Link (HDAVI Control 5) for joint operation with compatible Panasonic televisions.
SD card slot (SD/SDHC) and USB 2.0 for memory up to 128 GB: view JPEG photos, play DivX video and MP3/WMA music from a USB stick, transfer photos and SD video from Panasonic camcorders to the hard drive or DVD-RAM.
Music archive on the hard drive: audio CDs are copied in LPCM quality (up to 300 albums), with album, track and artist names supplied by the built-in Gracenote database of around 350,000 album titles.
Playback of DVD-Video, audio CD, Video CD and SVCD as well as MP3, WMA, JPEG and DivX from CD-R/RW and DVD-R; optical digital output for PCM, Dolby Digital, DTS and MPEG bitstream.
