Technics SA-AX530 – AV receiver with five power amplifiers, Dolby Pro Logic and analogue 6-channel input

Five equally rated power amplifiers, 60 watts each into 6 ohms, feed front, centre and surround – no weaker centre stage, no downsized rear channels. Anyone running just two speakers uses the same amplifier section for music and can connect a turntable straight to the phono input.

Decoding is shared with the source: Dolby Pro Logic is handled inside the receiver, while there is no built-in Dolby Digital or DTS decoder. Those soundtracks are decoded by a DVD player or surround processor and fed in analogue form to the DVD 6CH direct input — six RCA sockets that lead straight to the power amplifiers. Add an FM section with 30 presets and video switching for television and video recorder, and the unit becomes the clearly laid out centre of a system built from picture source, CD player, tape deck and turntable.

Highlights & Features

Five power amplifiers rated 60 W each into 6 ohms (DIN, 1 kHz) for front L/R, centre and surround L/R; 2 x 60 W in stereo mode.
Dolby Pro Logic in two modes: SURROUND with surround speakers and 3 STEREO when no rear speakers are used.
DVD 6CH INPUT: analogue 6-channel direct input (front L/R, centre, subwoofer, surround L/R) for DVD players or surround processors that handle multichannel decoding themselves.
SFC (Sound Field Control) with the sound fields HALL, CLUB, LIVE, THEATER and SIM SURR, usable with stereo sources as well.
Test tone with separate level adjustment for centre and surround, plus centre mode and adjustable delay time for matching the listening position.
FM tuner with 30 presets, automatic preset memory and direct frequency entry; the front panel carries RDS with PTY SELECTOR, PTY SEARCH and EON.
Phono input for MM cartridges, tape monitor loop and recording outputs for tape deck and video recorder.
Composite video switching for TV and video recorder with its own MONITOR OUT; subwoofer output for an active subwoofer.
Bass and treble controls, balance, speakers key for switching the loudspeakers off and a 6.3 mm headphone jack on the front.
Sleep timer (30 / 60 / 90 minutes) and wake timer (5 / 7 / 9 hours); muting via the remote control.
