Panasonic DMR-BST730 — Blu-ray recorder with 500 GB hard drive, SCART input and Miracast

A slim housing just 59 mm high containing a 500 GB hard drive and a Blu-ray burner: this combination turns the recorder from Panasonic’s DIGA range into a collection point for video material of every kind. Recordings first go to the hard drive, can be edited there and then saved to BD-R, BD-RE or DVD by high-speed copy. As a source component the unit outputs Blu-ray films, DVDs and audio CDs in Full HD via HDMI.

The DMR-BST730 is particularly popular for transferring old collections: a video recorder on the SCART input is recorded directly to the hard drive, and camcorder clips in AVCHD format are added via SD card or USB. Connected by network cable or Wi-Fi, it makes its recordings available to other DLNA devices in the house and mirrors content from an Android smartphone to the television via Miracast.

Highlights & Features

500 GB hard drive: up to 999 titles, up to 860 hours of recording time in EP mode; up to eight external USB hard drives (160 GB or larger) can be registered to move recordings off the internal drive and free up space.
Blu-ray burner: recording and archiving to BD-R/BD-RE (single and dual layer), DVD-RAM, DVD-R/-R DL, DVD-RW and +R/+R DL/+RW; with high-speed copy a one-hour title in HM mode is transferred to BD-R in about one minute.
Recording from external devices via the SCART input AV IN (EXT): record a video recorder, camcorder or set-top box in XP, SP, LP or EP mode, by timer if required, and then archive the recordings to Blu-ray or DVD.
Preserve camcorder footage: copy AVCHD and AVCHD 3D from SD card or directly from the video camera via USB to the hard drive or to BD; AVCHD recordings can also be transferred to DVD-R in HD quality.
Playback of Blu-ray including Blu-ray 3D and BD-Live, DVD-Video, audio CD, video files (MKV, Xvid, MP4, MPEG-2), MP3 and photos (JPEG, MPO 3D) from hard drive, disc, SD card or USB; MP3 music can be copied to the hard drive as a library.
HDMI output up to 1080p with 24p playback of Blu-ray films, additionally as a 24p(4K) signal on 4K televisions; Deep Colour and picture settings such as Super Resolution/detail sharpness; 3D playback on 3D-capable televisions.
Bitstream output of Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio and DTS-HD Master Audio via HDMI; optical and coaxial digital outputs plus analogue stereo output for amplifiers or AV receivers.
Network via LAN or integrated wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, 2.4 and 5 GHz): DLNA server, DLNA client and media renderer, Wi-Fi Direct, Miracast for Android smartphones; VIERA Link (HDAVI Control 5) and fold-down front flap with USB port and SD card slot.
