Sony SLV-AV100 — VHS hi-fi video recorder with built-in Dolby Pro Logic amplifier

One unit, two jobs: the SLV-AV100 houses a hi-fi stereo video recorder together with a discrete multi-channel amplifier in a single chassis. Sony called the concept Home Video Centre — the recorder plays and records, while the built-in amplifier drives front, centre and rear speakers directly and decodes Dolby Surround and Dolby Pro Logic. A separate AV receiver becomes unnecessary, and picture and sound are set up through an on-screen menu on the television.

The unit suits any compact home cinema or living-room system built around VHS tapes: a CD player, tape or MD deck and a second source connect to the RCA inputs, and the television hangs off the recorder via SCART. The SLV-AV100 also works as a plain amplifier for stereo sources; the recorder section does not need to run for that.
