Sony WM-EX102 — Walkman cassette player with MEGA BASS, AVLS and Anti-Rolling Mechanism

Black plastic housing, oval window, orange MEGA BASS lettering: at first glance this Sony Walkman shows what it was built for – playing compact cassettes through headphones on the move. According to the rating plate it is a pure cassette player, i.e. a playback device without recording function. It runs on two AA cells in the battery compartment on the back; alternatively an external power adapter can be connected at the bottom edge.

That makes the WM-EX102 a good match for anyone who wants to listen to old mixtapes, audio plays or their own recordings again without setting up a hi-fi system – while commuting, travelling or in the garden. The belt clip holds the flat unit on a waistband or bag so your hands stay free, and the buttons on the side of the housing are easy to reach while walking.

Highlights & Features

MEGA BASS: a slide switch (ON/OFF) right on the front boosts the bass for a fuller sound through headphones; in the OFF position playback stays neutral.
AVLS (Automatic Volume Limiter System, logo on the front): Sony volume limiter that prevents excessive levels at the headphones and protects your hearing.
Anti-Rolling Mechanism (printed in the window): transport design intended to reduce speed fluctuations caused by movement while carrying the player.
Control buttons on the side of the housing; cassette compartment with OPEN release on the bottom edge.
Battery operation with 2 AA batteries in the rear compartment; additional DC IN jack for an external power adapter.
Detachable belt clip on the back (LIFT/RELEASE) for wearing on a belt or bag.
Pure playback device (cassette player) without recording function.
